Trip Information

The main attraction of Gokyo lake at the base of Gokyo Ri is the small village in the Khumbu region. The high altitude  EBC –Chola and Gokyo trek begins from Lukla after 35 minutes of flight from Kathmandu. From Lukla, the trek begins downwards the Dudhkoshi River. After this the trails ascent to Namche Bazaar and acclimatize the gateway of Everest “Namche”. Route of EBC and Gokyo separates from Sanasa. From Sanasa the trail goes uphill to Mongla pass and downhill to PhortseThanga. The way to Machhermo is beautiful whereas Rhododendron forest and spectacular vistas of Cho Oyu, Kangtega and thamserku.on the way you will go Gokyo Ri and the Largest glacier of Nepal “Ngozumpa”. From Gokyo RI can see the view of Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu as well as other some peak like Cholatse, Kangchung, etc.

The Chola Pass day trek start before sunrise for long Chola Ascent and Long descent to Lobuche. This can be very difficult. After Lobuche, he trek passes to Everest Base camp. Next morning early hike to Kalapatthar for sunrise view and back to Lukla for the flight to Kathmandu. The Mt. Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)
Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan Intl. airport our representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. After time to get refreshed, evening you’ll meet and transfer for welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurants in the heart of Kathmandu and briefing about your trip and overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing & trek preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)
After breakfast the day will start to our guided trip to cultural world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley; the pilgrimage sites of Hindus temple Pashupatinath, the world biggest Bouddhanath stupa and visit Swoyambhunath Stupa also known as monkey temple. After exploring the surrounding areas visit historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with the temple, unique architectures and Kumari (living goddess). Evening pre-trip discussion and introduce with our fellow trekking staff for your adventure trip.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft) & trek to Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft), 3-4 hrs walk
Early morning we fly from Kathmandu to the tiny airstrip at Lukla for about 40 minutes scenic flight; you will have time to stroll around, while the guide sort and divide the load baggage to be carried by porters. The guide will manage the lunch place depending upon the time of arrival at Lukla. We then take an easy walk to Phakding village for the overnight stop and the rest of the time stroll around the village for local knowledge.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft), 5-6 hrs walk
After breakfast we will continue up the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing it twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park. When entering the National park boundary we descend and a gradual walk brings us to the suspension bridge over the Bhote-Koshi river to Jorsalle village, the last village till Namche Bazaar. Namche is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region.

Day 05: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar
We will spend a day in Namche Bazaar resting and allowing our bodies to become acclimatized to the altitude of (3,440m/11,283ft). You have full day leisure or visit Everest View Point hotel for a wonderful panoramic view or stroll around the market if Saturday can be seen many people in Saturday market for shopping to fulfill their daily needs and only one shopping market in the surrounding areas. Also, you can visit Sherpa Museum as well a great place to learn Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering and stroll back to the hotel for overnight.

Day 06: Trek to Dole (4200m/13,776ft), 5-6 hrs walk
After a stroll around the Namche area, we follow on the gradual trail with few short up and downs overlooking magnificent view of the great giant snow peaks at Shanasa. Our trek ascents the left side to Mongla hill and continue down to Phortse Thanga. After lunch further few hours of walk ascending will reach Dole for overnight. A small place with few teahouses and enjoy your night at Dole.

Day 07: Trek to Machharmo (4470m/ 14,663ft), 4-5 hrs walk
After breakfast, we climb to the scenic ridge above the Dole and the trail continues to climb along the side of the valley high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to reach Machharmo. The afternoon after reaches and refreshed visit the Himalayan rescue association and overnight at the hotel.

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo (4800m/15,744ft), 3-4 hrs walk
Today, we climb up to the ridge and can be seen excellent view both down the valley to Khangtega and northern part to the Cho-Oyu (8153m/26741ft). Our route descends to the river bank before beginning the climb up to the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa glacier. Afterward, the trail levels out as it follows the valley past a second lake, known as Longponga at 4690m/15383ft. Enjoy the lake view and after an hour walk will reach Gokyo village on the edge of the third lake.

Day 09: Rest and buffer day at Gokyo
This may have a full day rest at Gokyo or have the chance to explore up to the fifth lake passing another forth lake and enjoy the view. This is a great place and an opportunity to view full part of Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyu. You can see the Northern part of Cho-Oyu base camp and biggest glacier of the world Ngazumpa glacier, and stroll back to the hotel for overnight.

Day 10: Hike to Gokyo RI (5,330m/17,483ft), and trek to Thaknak (4750m/15580ft), 6-7 hrs walk
Early in this morning, we hike up to Gokyo Ri for the breathtaking view of splash a sunrise top of the mountain including Mt. Everest view and many more Himalayan scenery. This will be unforgettable lifetime memories and enjoy around the top. We have great memories and stroll back an hour to Gokyo for breakfast. We trek down to Thaknak for the overnight passing through the second lake and walk on the glacier.

Day 11: Trek to Cho-la Pass (5367m/17604ft) to Dzongla (4,850m/15908ft), 5-6 hrs walk
This day is one of the tuff days to cross the Cho-la because of the high pass. The pass is not difficult but it is steep and involves a glacier traverse on the eastern side. After crossing the Cho-la we reach at Dzongla for overnight. Enjoy the fantastic view around the high above.

Day 12: Trek to Gorakshep (5,160m/16,929ft), 5-6 hrs walk
We continue our trek along the moraine of the glacier, with views of Kalapathar and Pumori. You have good chances for the best view of Mt. Nuptse a front of you walking along the Gorekshep. After lunch at Gorekhshep, we hike to Kalapatther for the great sunset view over Himalaya. The trail up to the Gorakshep is rocky and windy but it offers a good view of Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp and glacier with scenic Mountain View. We enjoy the night at Gorakshep the higher elevation.

Day 13: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft) and Gorakshep, 5-6 hrs walk
After the breakfast at Gorekshep we ready for our adventure to the targeted destination and we continue our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air, the walk passes through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams till you reach the base camp. Everest Base Camp is lively with commotion during the high expedition season. After a grand time here retrace the journey back to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge.

Day 14: Kalapathar (5,550m/18,204ft) hike and stroll back to Dingboche (4,358m/14,295 ft), 7-8 hrs walk
Early morning our journey continues to climb to the top the famous viewpoint Kalapatthar. After reaching the top, you will feel beaming as you achieve the moment that you been dreaming, since the beginning of the journey. Kalapathar is a small rocky peak on the southwest ridge of Mt. Pumori and the view from here is beyond imagination as the Everest looks amazing. You can also see the Everest Base camp down below on the moraine of Khumbu glacier and a lot of picturesque scenery. After enjoying the panoramic views stroll back to Gorakshep and trek down to the Imja valley at Dingboche.

Day 15: Trek to Tyangboche (3,867m/12684ft), 4-5 hrs walk
The walk today will be easy heading downhill to a lower elevation from Dingboche the walk is pleasant and all the way to Tyangboche. After the bridge, our route descends following the stream towards Pangboche village, and further down to Tyangboche. Tyangboche is one of the most beautiful places in the Himalaya the first thing that comes to your eye is the big Monastery, then the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering majestic beautiful peak Ama Dablam.

Day 16: Trek to Monjo ((2680M/8791ft), 5-6 hrs walk
After breakfast treks down to Phunkethanga a small settlement with a couple of teahouses. From here the trail leads downhill through the forested path with great memories and after crossing the local wooden bridge over the Dudh Koshi river trek onwards to a steep climb to Sanasa to Namche Bazaar and trek further down to Monjo for overnight stay.

Day 17: Trek to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft), 6-7 hrs walk
After breakfast, we trek back with enjoying the lush green scenery around and passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa village. And finally today the trail leads you back to Lukla. After your arrival in Lukla, you will have time to relax and celebrate the completion of your trek.

Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)
After an early morning flight to Kathmandu, our guide transfer you to your hotel. You may have time to relax after a long journey and take back your breath and rest at your hotel with ending your Himalayan trip with us.

Day 19: Departure from Kathmandu
Today is free or last minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives for you until your departure flight/drive or to commence any extra trips or activities you may have booked with us. If departing, you’ll be transferred to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination.

Required experienced and physical condition:

According to the categorized of trekking Chola pass and Everest Base Camp trekking is considered one of the difficult popular trekking in the world. Although this trek is difficult some of the success to complete whole trekking some of them will suffer to complete by high altitude and pain. It is most popular trekking in the world because of this hundred of trekkers trekking every day during the high season of trekking.

The trekkers who can afford 6-7 hours walk every day up and downhill they can complete this trek.  Mission Himalaya Treks suggest the trekkers exercise and jogging every day at least 30 days prior to start this trek Chola pass and EBC. Chola pass trekking is easy for those trekkers who have experienced in trekking high altitude environment. Big technical issue no necessary for this trek. If you have blood disease, lung and heart problem please consult with your doctor and inform us before booking this trek. Mission Himalaya treks suggest you bring knee support. Training makes Chola pass trek much easier than the people who come without training? Altitude is the focus reason for this trek is difficult because above 5000 m will make tourist hard to breathe as well.

Trekking is an adventure sport. Based on the difficulty of the routes, it requires high motivation and previous experiences. Some of the treks in Nepal are suitable only for highly experienced trekkers where some routes are suitable for novice trekkers as well. An average fit person with regular training can do our most of the treks. Please consult with us if you are concerned about your fitness level.

Altitude Sickness:

 Most trekking routes in Nepal are in high altitude above 3500 meters which are part of the high altitude. Trekking is high altitude is a serious activity especially for those without having previous high altitude experiences. Drinking lots of water and ascending slowing by catching your breath regularly helps a lot to fight with altitude sickness, however, there is no bulletproof plan to prevent the altitude sickness at all.

Accommodation on the Trek:  

You will be staying at 3-star category hotels in Kathmandu and teahouses during the trekking period. All accommodations are the twin sharing basis. However, the single supplement will be provided on your request and will be the additional cost. But the trekking period the single supplement will be given if there and availability in the lodges. Some lower elevation can be fine but the upper elevation might be difficult to give single room. The accommodation in the city might be two single beds or 1 king size big bed. If a guest has special performance for the room selection please feel free to inform Mission Himalaya Treks And Expeditions PVT LTD. We will try to provide you with the special appropriate room during your stay in Nepal. Numerous lodges provided blankets in the rooms but we suggest you to bring your own sleeping bag. In the whole trekking, you will be accommodating in lodges no need camping and tent. Please do not expect high standard rooms during your trekking period. If you are a single traveller in the higher elevation you need to share the room with another single trekker like you (same sex). In case we are not able to provide you single supplement we will refund your single supplement charge. We hope you understand the situation of trekking places. Please do not expect high standard luxury lodges, you are in a remote place. They offer basic rooms for accommodation.

Meals on the Trek: 

During your trekking period, we will provide all the meals but only breakfast will be given in Kathmandu. Depends your international flight time we will provide you a farewell or welcome dinner in a typical Nepali local restaurant with the cultural dance show. During your trek breakfast and dinner will be taken in the lodges where you sleep overnight but lunch takes in the middle of the trekking period. Indian, Italian, Nepalese and continental food is the choices in the trekking from the menu provided by the tea houses. Like noodles, soups, handmade bread, rice items, curries, spaghetti, pizza, egg items, potatoes are available in the mountains. These meals are prepared after your order. Most of the places meats also available but we recommend you not to take as they are not fresh. Sometimes unhealthy food affects your body and trekking. Do not expect western meals like you take in the city and in your home. Mission Himalaya Treks And Expeditions PVT LTD give you full freedom to select your preferred meals from the menu provided by the lodges. The food and raw materials are locally prepared and taste different than the city.

Our trek includes meals on the trek prepared by the lodges means we do not need to carry foods for all the major trekking routes of Nepal.  Most lodge based treks offer foods prepared in the lodges locally however it's recommended to carry some energy bars and other quick bites as some camps might be longer than the usual waking hours.

Recommended Gears:

Based on the experiences and fitness, you may need more or fewer gears than mentioned in our gear list. Please find the list of recommended gears below.


Boots and spare laces, Light shoes/trainers, down jacket, Fleece or sweater, Shirts*3, Socks*3, trekking trousers (or the long skirt for the woman), waterproof jacket /poncho/ umbrella, over trousers, underwear (including thermals), Gloves, woollen Hat/ balaclava, sunhat etc.

Other Essential items:

First Aid Kitbag, trekking poles, sleeping bag(4 season +), sleeping bag liner, water bottle (min 1 liter capacity) thermal better choice, head torch, batteries for camera and torch, Sunglasses, Sun cream (SPF 50) and lip salve, Towel and washing kit, Money belt, Map, Whistle, Toilet paper and lighter, Passport, Small padlock (to secure kitbag and lodge bedroom)

Optional things:

Notebook and pens, Altimeter, Binoculars, Gaiters, Plastic bags, Insulation Mat, Camera and plenty of drives, Personal snacks and other games equipment

Note: do not bring too many things because porter can carry maximum 25 kilos and airlines not allow bringing more than 20 kilos in another sector domestic flight or 15 kilos only for Lukla flights.
